At age 23, April Morris was a single mother with no business experience, but an innovative idea and a dream. Behind her unassuming beauty and down-to-earth nature is a story of struggle and prosperity that led her to become an award-winning sales leader, award-winning innovator and inspiring speaker.

In 1995, I arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana to start a brand new life for me and my kids (ages 5 & 6 yrs old at the time). I had no car, no furniture, no education and no money. I had worked as a makeup artist at a cosmetic counter in Albany, GA. earning $6.85 per hour. I arranged to continue working for the same cosmetic company when I arrived in Indianapolis and was quickly promoted to management. Making women feel beautiful was my passion. However, it seemed there was never enough money at the end of the month for my family. My optimistic nature and faith pulled me through some really tough times. Desperate to find relief, I began reading motivational books for inspiration and I felt a fire ignite inside me. I knew I was destined for something greater. But what and when?

Divine inspiration is how I describe what happened next. In December 2002, I got an innovative idea after attending a Christmas party. This is what happened. The host of the party shared with me that two ladies (I had met at the party) referred to me as “chubby”. At first I was angry but that quickly turned to disappointment because I remembered getting ready that night and my clothes were fitting too tight. I immediately began taking diet pills. The side effects seemed to make me too jiggery so I stopped taking them. Sometime later I was driving in my car and while sitting at a red light, I began to reapply my lip gloss in the rear view mirror. That’s when the idea came to me... I wondered if there was a smell or herb that could be put in lip gloss that might help curb appetite. I became obsessed with doing research to find out how to develop my idea which would later be called THINgloss™ I had a BIG DREAM but no money to get started. How was I going to fund my idea?

My big break came when I began selling real estate. In 2006, I sold 9 million in real estate and won "Sales Person of the Year"! I had a six figure income; built my dream home, got my Mercedes and I could FINALLY pay my bills! It all came to a screeching halt in June 2006 when a near death family tragedy served as my wakeup call. I said goodbye to my old life and decided to DREAM BIG! I invested all my savings and launched THINgloss™ by Express Effects Cosmetics in March 2008.

My purpose is very clear to me. It is to serve others. I believe all women deserve to look and feel beautiful. I believe we are all born with a genius (unique gifts and talents). I believe in joining together in a spirit of collaboration so we can all succeed. This is my passion. It is an honor and privilege to serve you.

Currently, THINgloss™ is sold in 60+ stores in the US and Tokyo, Japan and won the prestigious award for “BEST INNOVATION”. Additionally, April Morris has been featured on FOX, NBC, Los Angeles Times, Indianapolis Star and many others. April was recognized as the 2008 “Starkey Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year” nominee and is currently on a national tour with Wow Women Expos to share her inspiring story and promote THINgloss™.
